8th Annual Go Red: Walk, Shop and Stroll Preventing Heart Disease in Women
What: 8th Annual Go Red: Walk, Shop and Stroll Preventing Heart Disease in Women, One Step at a Time
When: Friday, February 3, 2012, noon-2 p.m.
Where: John Muir Health Outpatient Center, Brentwood (stroll down Balfour Road), 2400 Balfour Road, Brentwood – Meet inside on the second floor.
Why: According to the American Heart Association, heart disease is still the number one killer of women each year. Through John Muir Health’s Women’s Heart Program and the Go Red: Walk, Shop and Stroll annual event, women become proactive in taking care of themselves by understanding the risks for developing cardiovascular disease and taking action to lead healthier lives.
“Heart health is so important and now is a great time for people to do something for themselves and make that change to a healthier lifestyle. It’s all about taking the first step, and every step truly counts,” says Evon Shipley, LVN, and Women’s Heart Program Coordinator.
This year, John Muir Health will be expanding the event to several of its locations throughout the East Bay, including Walnut Creek (two events), Concord and Brentwood. In the spirit of February being National Heart Month, the Go Red: Walk, Shop and Stroll event is designed to educate, inspire and bring awareness about heart disease to women.
The walk begins at the each of the John Muir Health locations simultaneously and covers approximately one mile through surrounding communities. This year, a special Zumba session by Delta Valley Athletic Club will get hearts racing and improve cardiovascular fitness during the event. Special talks, giveaways and prizes will be available and the first 150 registered participants at each location will receive a free event t-shirt.
