Local Schools Celebrate Gains in API Scores

The Academic Performance Index (API score) is the cornerstone of California’s Public Schools Accountability Act of 1999; it measures the academic performance and growth of schools on a variety of academic measures.

The Byron Union School District is celebrating significant gains at all three schools. BUSD Trustee, Jill Sprenkle, tells us:  “everyone gets the credit for this… students, teachers, parents, administrators… This district should be very proud.”

For the full, detailed report, including demographics: http://api.cde.ca.gov/reports Reports and data files are based on test results of the Standardized Testing and Reporting (STAR) Program. A school’s API is a number that ranges from 200 to 1000 and is calculated from the results for each school’s students on statewide tests. The state has set 800 as the API target for all schools to meet. Schools that fall short of 800 are required to meet annual growth targets until that goal is achieved. API targets vary for each school.
