IT WILL FINALLY FEEL LIKE THE HEAT IN MIAMI THROUGHOUT NORTHERN CALIFORNIA THIS WEEKEND. DAYTIME HIGHS IN THE VALLEY AND FOOTHILLS WILL BE IN THE 80S. TEMPERATURES WILL BE NEAR NORMAL FOR MID JUNE THROUGHOUT INTERIOR NORTHERN CALIFORNIA. THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE WOULD LIKE TO REMIND PEOPLE OF THE HIDDEN DANGERS OF THE COLD SNOW MELT WATERS FEEDING NORTHERN CALIFORNIA WATERWAYS. WARMING TEMPERATURES IN THE WEEKS TO COME WILL DRAW MANY PEOPLE OUTSIDE TO WATER ACTIVITIES ON OUR REGIONS RIVERS AND LAKES. THESE WARMER TEMPERATURES WILL RESULT IN INCREASED SNOW MELT. EXTRA CARE SHOULD BE EXERCISED DURING THIS TIME OF YEAR WHEN OUR AREA WATERWAYS ARE COLD AND RUNNING FAST. DON.T BE A MAVERICK AND JUMP INTO THE RIVER WITHOUT A LIFE VEST. WATER TEMPERATURES OVER THE NEXT FEW WEEKS ARE EXPECTED TO RUN IN THE LOWER 50S TO MID 60S IN VALLEY RIVERS AND LAKES AND IN THE MID TO UPPER 40S AT HIGHER ELEVATIONS. ALTHOUGH AFTERNOON AIR TEMPERATURES MAY BE VERY WARM…PEOPLE VENTURING INTO THE MUCH COLDER WATER COULD QUICKLY EXPERIENCE HYPOTHERMIA WHICH CAN LEAD TO DROWNING. HYPOTHERMIA IS A SUDDEN LOSS OF BODY TEMPERATURE THAT CAN BE FATAL. WARNING SIGNS INCLUDE UNCONTROLLED SHIVERING…SLURRED SPEECH…DROWSINESS…AND APPARENT EXHAUSTION. EVEN STRONG SWIMMERS CAN TIRE QUICKLY IN VERY COLD WATER…AND THE COLD WATER IN A STRONG CURRENT IS A DEADLY COMBINATION. EVERYONE GOING INTO THE WATER SHOULD WEAR A LIFE VEST. EVEN CHILDREN THAT ARE SIMPLY WADING ALONG A WATERWAY SHOULD WEAR ONE.

  Instruction:
NORTHERN CALIFORNIA RIVERS AND STREAMS WILL BE RUNNING VERY FAST AND HIGHER OVER A LONGER DURATION INTO THE SUMMER SEASON DUE TO THE DELAY IN WARMING TEMPERATURES. PLAN AHEAD FOR ANY TRIPS TO AREA WATERWAYS. PLEASE THINK BEFORE YOU SINK!!
